Inverness Head 2019
As the first ever race on the water for our novice squads this year, it was and exciting day of racing for them, as well as their coach, Jasper Jones. Three crews - two novice women crews and one from our novice men’s squad - planned to race at Inverness Head, which incorporated the Scottish Students Rowing Championships Head that weekend.

The novice women raced in the WBeg4+ category, securing times of 21:58.07 (Matthews) and 23:50.02 (Wilkins). The ladies gave it their best shot placing third and fourth in the beginner’s category, competing against some strong crews from Aberdeen University BC (AUBC) and a composite of AUBC/Robert Gordon’s University BC.
Unfortunately, the novice men had to scratch their crew that was racing in the Beg4X+ category, due to steering issues. Despite this, they still got an insight into a day of racing, gaining a better understanding of the preparation and organisation that goes into a race-day, whilst also getting a better gauge of the standard of rowing from other novice crews. It was great for the novices to get in some experience ahead of the other races this semester and we look forward to see how they get on both at these Head races and during regatta season!
