Aberdeen Head 2018

On the weekend of the 27th of October, the Senior Women competed at the Aberdeen Fours Head of the River 2018. After an incredibly successful Brit Champs it was another exciting weekend for the ladies, as the squad ventured up North for some more racing in the winter period.

The women competed in both divisions - in the Women's Open 4+ and Women's R2 4+ categories. The first division saw three crews take to the water: two 4+ crews and one 4- crew. It was a successful first division for the crews, with the 'A' boat, made up of Skye Arnott, Taylor Brooke Wright, Olivia Chase and Morgan Hartley, winning the Women's Open 4+ title and the 'B' crew finishing not far behind them in fifth place. The 4- crew were a time-only event and so had no opportunity to medal, but the race gave them the chance to row in a competitive environment on the River Dee.

The second division saw the same boats take to the water, where the 'A' boat missed out on the Women's R2 4+ title by four seconds and, again, the 'B' boat were close to follow, placing 4th in the category. Our crew racing in the Open 4- category suffered from equipment malfunctions and so sadly were disqualified from the race.

Overall, the squad gained some invaluable racing experience so early on in the year, which was particularly useful as we have welcomed so many new faces to the Club since September. Our performances at this event certainly give high hope for our coming races over the remainder of the academic year!
