BUCS Bronze to Home International Regatta

Yesterday, Scottish Rowing confirmed their line up for the 2017 Home International Regatta at Strathclyde Park. St Andrews had been represented at HIR previously, but it has certainly been sometime since the club

has fielded athletes for representation at the national level.

We are therefore delighted to share the news that Alex Chisholm has been selected to return to the junior squad. Alex previously raced before at HIR with George Watson's College (Edinburgh) but the feat of a return should not be underestimated. Alex races this Saturday, along with the rest of the Scottish team.

Alex joined the club back in September and quickly established himself as a no nonsense grafter within the men's squad. A humble and determined young athlete, Alex had a quiet confidence that drove some fantastic performances this season, most notably his bronze medal in the I1x at BUCS Regatta and his 4th place finish in J18 sculls last weekend at the British Junior Champs. There are 3 more years at St Andrews for Alex and we're certain there's still a lot more to come from this talented rower and we're looking forward to a bright future.

Hannah Myatt and Kirstin Giddy were also in the running for HIR representation this year. With 3 really strong women's programmes in Scotland, the competition was of a very high standard. Glasgow, Edinburgh and St Andrews took to the park a few weeks ago to seat race pairs to determine the women's squad. Unfortunately, a canvas was all it took to deny the girls representation at HIR this year but the entire pack was separated by less than a length - demonstrating the strength of the three top programmes.
