24 Hour Ergathon for Maggie's Cancer Care Centre

The University of St Andrews Boat Club is back for another year, and what a busy Fresher's week we had. In addition to our successful Give-it-a-Go sessions for potential new novices, and our feature at the Sports Fayre, the club held our annual 24 hour Ergathon, where some of our most dedicated members took on half hour slots to row throughout the night from midday on the 9th of September.

The Erg-a-Thon is a personal highlight for most, if not all, of our dedicated members and has become a staple of our freshers week since its inception almost a decade ago. Since then we have raised money for a few different charitable organisations, including our most recent association with Maggie's Centre Cancer Care which now enters its 4th year.

The physical challenge of a 24 hour row is impressive in itself, and our insistence on choosing local charities highlights the club's thriving links with the Fife community however ultimately, what is displayed here is the determination of our athletes, as well as the generous nature of our donors who, thanks to our active JustGiving page, came not just from our immediate area but from as far afield as across the pond.

In a spectacular display of the camaraderie between town and gown, the total raised for Maggie's Centre was £2,346.41, an incredible amount that makes the distance rowed - an impressive 327km - all the more worthwhile.

Featured below are a few of our rowers who took part:
