COMMUNITY WORK
INDOOR ROWING - ST ANDREWS
THE BIG FREE OPEN WEEKEND - LOCHORE
Since being awarded a Sport Scotland awards for all grant in 2016, the club has been working with Madras College in St Andrews to build a weekly indoor rowing programme. Having paused the programme at the request of Madras, the club is now working towards renewing this weekly programme with other local schools and youth groups.
Sessions are run by student volunteers from within the Boat Club who have received prior training. It is a huge testament to the St Andrews volunteering community that such schemes can be run sustainably. The boat club is just one club that runs such activities with multiple clubs also running community engagement schemes.
Our current indoor rowing programme is the first stepping stone in an ambitious plan to bring rowing to the communities of Fife.
Each year, the club takes part in the Big Free Open Weekend at Loch Ore, where we have our water training sessions. The club brings down glide singles from Glasgow, with the support fo Scottish Rowing to give taster sessions in the single sculls that are stable platforms for a first outing!
